LitPick Review
The Fog of Forgetting, written by G.A. Morgan, is a book about several children, the eldest boy Chase, his younger brothers Knox and Teddy, as well as their new friends Evelyn and Frankie. These children make an unforgettable journey through a dense fog onto an island, which they later learn is called Ayda. There they face a keeper named Dankar. Dankar seeks to claim the stones of power to gain control of water, earth, air, and fire, as well as the long lost fifth stone, which is believed to hold control of the fog. Our heroes and the other keepers fight against Dankar's rebellion in a desperate attempt to keep the balance of control on Ayda. In order to defeat Dankar and his people, the children must face warriors, rural land, lack of supplies (food, water, clothes, shelter etc.), the loss of friends, each other, and their own stubborn pride. Will our heroes win the fight for balance? Or will Ayda fall to Dankar's deadly reign of terror?
Opinion:
The Fog of Forgetting had an amazing story line filled with drama and surprises, and a unique plot with interesting characters. My conclusion is that this book belongs under fantasy, not under the romance section I found it under. I would suggest a story where every character's point of view is expressed. This would help readers decide for themselves which of the characters is truly "evil". If I had to pick just one favorite character, I would pick Raysta, because she seems to have lived an interesting life and kept showing signs of deep emotions for the children and other people. I enjoyed Seaborn's confession, as it was rather funny to see a supposedly "unbreakable" person squirm. I would suggest this book to readers looking to escape their own world into a land of mystery and suspense.
