Mayten Singer has always lived with her large family in the countryside. She spent her free time with her brother, Wollemi, or with her beloved trees. Soon she won’t have much free time though. She was leveling up to Level 4 with her two friends. Once they received their assignments, they would become full-fledged members of the clan. Mayten isn’t worried. She will be a tree singer just like her mother. After all, communicating with the trees and directing their energy came easily to her. Some even said she had potential to be better than her mother. But, the day before the ceremony, her mother seems distant and her father acts sad. Cather, her best friend, even makes Mayten promise that nothing will change after the ceremony. And worst of all, her favorite tree is communicating feelings of despair and fear. What is going on? Is there something they all know that she doesn’t?

Opinion:

Tree Singer is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It has stunning imagery and word choice. For example: “There was beauty in the chaos above her, sunlight weaving its way through the branches like a blessing, birds twittering invisible among the leaves.“ The author, Jacci Turner, has created a captivating book that is impossible to put down once you start reading. Perfect for anyone, Tree Singer ties together pieces of adventure, romance, mystery, and fantasy into one thrilling read. I highly recommend Tree Singer for any middle school or high school student looking for an interesting book, or for any adult looking for an easier read.
