LitPick Review
The book, “We Know It Was You,” by Maggie Thrash, is about a girl and a boy named Virginia and Benny who belong to a mystery club at their boarding school. The two friends and outcasts look for mysteries to solve. When they witness a cheerleader, named Brittany, throw herself off of a bridge and into the river, Virginia and Benny are the only ones who can solve this mystery and the reasoning behind it.
Opinion:
This book wasn’t as enjoyable as I expected. Pretty Little Liars and Twin Peaks are great shows. The description of this book says, "Twin Peaks meets Pretty Little Liars," so I was very excited that there was going to be a fun and scary twist. I kept reading and waiting for something exciting to happen. Nothing in this book had the type of scary excitement that these shows carry, and I was very confused.
I rated this book as a one star because I couldn’t follow it. Both the characterization and plot were all over the place. Also, a number of different events were happening all at once. The mystery was solved within about the first 100 pages, but the story continued for over two hundred more pages. The book starts out well-developed and organized, but then it seemed like somebody else took over the writing process. As the book progressed, it got more unorganized and hard to understand. In my opinion, this book wasn’t how it was depicted.
