LitPick Review
This book is about a 12-year-old girl who has just moved to a farm and is going to a new school. As if trying to make new friends isn’t difficult enough, she is a poultry farmer learning to hatch and take care of some very unusual chickens...chickens with superpowers. Then there's her cousin, Lupe, who will be moving in with Sophie's family. Read the sequel to Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer to find out what happens along the way.
Opinion:
I loved this book because it’s very different, funny, and original. I’ve never read a book even remotely close to it. The story is told using emails, letters, and illustrations. It is a long read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it did not seem like 300 pages. It went very fast. The illustrations are also very funny and beautiful. One of my favorite parts about the illustrations is that about every 5 or so pages there are illustrations, so I never got bored of reading.
My favorite characters are Sophie Brown, a funny 12-year-old girl trying to make new friends at her new school, and her cousin Lupe, who moved in with Sophie’s family. The girls work to fix up their Aunt Agnes’s run-down chicken farm.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone over age 10 who likes funny books.
