The Lotus Saga is a book about young Rook and his journey to save the world. He was homeless, living day to day on whatever people were kind enough to give him. Then, one day, a scribe comes to him and makes him one of his assistants. After eight years, the scribe insists that he leave.  “There is nothing more I can teach you,” he says. He asks Rook to travel to a friend of his who can teach him swordsmanship and survival skills. The next day, it seems as if the scribe has forgotten, but then he tells him secrets that Rook has never heard before.

In the midst of all this chaos, Rook has forgotten about the annual grand fair. He debates going, but his two best friends convince him to check it out. They have a great time, but suddenly Rook gets the feeling that something is wrong back home. He races home, only to find the scribe dead on the floor!

Stunned by what has happened, he hears a voice in his mind calling him. It turns out to be a sword, but not just any sword. It is the Lotus Sword, a legendary sword said to have once been owned by Parthian himself. The sword bids Rook to go on a quest to find the Water of Life. Once there, he will find the strength to confront the scribe’s killer. What happens next? Find out in The Lotus Saga!

Opinion:

The Lotus Saga was a great book filled with action and adventure. I found it amazing that this book was written by Nimai Agarwal, a seventeen-year-old. It had the quality of a book written by a very experienced writer.

The descriptions were especially praiseworthy. I couldn’t believe how well everything was described; it was very easy to picture yourself in the character’s place. At times the storyline was a little tough to follow, particularly when swapping between characters. Yet for the most part, it flowed pretty well. The action was gripping, and it was definitely a fun book to read. I would recommend this book to students ages 12 and up due to some language and fighting.
