In My Date From Hell, the second book of The Blooming Goddess Trilogy, recently discovered goddess Sophie must set out on a mission to retrieve Persephone's memories in an effort to stop Zeus and Hades from finding the location of the ritual. The ritual will end the world as we know it. Think that's the biggest problem? Think again. Aphrodite has paired Sophie and Kai (Sophie's longtime crush) to stop not only the gods, but also stop queen bee Bethany from becoming a celebrity. When they are told to treat it as a date, Sophie finds this the perfect opportunity to get Kai to admit his feelings for her. How will this drama-filled comedy end?
Opinion:
I would definitely recommend you read the first book in The Blooming Goddess Trilogy. Otherwise, this one will be harder to follow. I felt it moved pretty quickly, but it fit the theme. I really liked this book as it had the right blend of romance, humor, and action. However, I didn't understand what Bethany had to do with the story. Festos was the highlight of My Date From Hell; I loved his character. His character (Sophie's best friend in her previous life) adds a much needed sense of humor to the story.
I would recommend this book to middle school through high school students, to Greek mythology lovers, and to kids like me, who absolutely love the Percy Jackson series.
