Keepers of Runes and the Tower of Shadows is a book about an elf named Corinth who lived on the world of Terranesit. Corinth had been left orphaned early on in his life. After his parents died from a plague, he started a band of thieves. Finally, though, their band was caught and put in jail. It took a good many years, but finally Corinth convinced his captor, Tessius, that he was ready to change. When that happened, Tessius took him on as an apprentice to become a Sage Knight. He became a Sage Knight on his 120th birthday. (A Sage Knight is one who has been trained in a specific way to protect the innocent.) Corinth’s first assignment as a Sage Knight was to go to the town of Havenport and find out what they knew about the strange disappearances that were going on in the Merchant’s Triangle and to offer his assistance in the matter. Will Corinth help to resolve it or will it turn out to be something bigger and more sinister than petty kidnapping? Find out in this epic book!
Opinion:
Keepers of Runes and the Tower of Shadows is the first book in a series. It was an exciting book that had the action, magic, and thrills that I like, but it was often so confusing that I didn't know who was speaking and had to read the same sentence three times to understand what was happening. This was a very good book despite that one mistake, though. One of the good parts of this book was that the characters were very well developed. For example, Corinth was an elf that needed to open up a little bit, but he still enjoyed the company of his friends. I also liked the part in the book where they were buying magical items from a trader and one of the characters was able to weasel down the price with her good looks. I would recommend this book to ages twelve through seventeen. I'd really love to give this book a five star rating, but the fact that it was so confusing dropped its point level to a four star for me.
