LitPick Review
Audrey Grey's Shadow Rise is the story of a girl named Maia Greystone. She is the strong main character though she has her downfalls and shortcomings. The book starts with her remembering the bombing from the previous book. She is being tortured by the Archduchess and plans to escape. When she does, she finds herself in the hands of the rebels, who she thought were her friends. They brand her as a traitor and even her brother Max won't look her in the eye. All this is happening while a meteorite is coming to destroy half the population of Earth, but her father has made a weapon that can stop the meteor and save them all. It is hidden in the enemy's home base, and Maia needs to find it, but to do so, she must defeat the love of her life who doesn't remember her. Needing help, she seeks people she can trust and makes a plan to take the scorpion throne and save many lives. Can she do it? Read the book to see.
Opinion:
Shadow Rise was one of my favorite books to read. Though it did have some profanity, mature concepts, and modern concepts (such as homosexuality), it was quite good. Some things I liked about this book were the strong female character who shows real and relatable emotions. Also, I liked how Audrey Grey made the whole storyline interesting; there was never a dull moment in the book. The characters really do come to life in your mind's eye. Shadow Rise was very well written; I applaud the author's artistry and freedom with her words. One thing I did not enjoy was some of the, in my opinion, unnecessary profanity.
It is the second book in a series, so I do suggest that you read the first book because the storyline is a bit hard to understand without reading the first book. I could not put it down; it was a riveting read, and I really do recommend it. I think this book will be enjoyed by many people between the ages of 13-16. This book has fantastic writing, characters, and plot.
