LitPick Review
Shh! There is a secret hero living in Black Butte Ranch! . . . Mild-mannered Nick Townley loves painting and video games, much to the disappointment of his parents. But he finds comfort in the memories of his late great grandfather, who introduced him to the world of superheroes and comics. With Great Gramp, he created the superhero Click, a combination of their two names. After Great Gramp's passing and unbeknownst to his parents, Nick is left with a shoe box stash of cash and a new responsibility: to be the "guardian" of the "old people" in his community. Eleven-year-old Nick may not be a typical hero, but he is kind and generous. When old Mr. Flossen’s parrot goes missing, Nick's secret parrot rescue quickly snowballs into a series of covert missions that attract the notice of his town, including a curious and persistent girl named Celia. On top of it all, Nick’s parents drop the bombshell of an inevitable move just as Nick is starting to find his place as a hero.
Opinion:
Faster paced with a captivating plot! . . . More powerful with memorable characters! . . . Able to leap generational boundaries in a single bound! . . . Though there are many endearing characters in this story, the protagonist is the star. While Nick faces many trials and tribulations, those challenges come with meaningful life lessons. He learns to embrace his destiny, treasure his memories, defend what is right, and value his friendships. The use of comic pages to introduce text is brilliant. The visuals and often humorous captions perfectly capture the essence of each chapter. Author Sandy Grubb’s engaging comic pages and witty writing style create a truly immersive reading experience. This book will keep you entertained until the very end. Celebrate "truth, justice, and a better tomorrow!" Spread the word and be a hero by sharing this fantastic book with everyone you know. It would be a crime to miss Just Like Click!
