In Tommy Black and The Staff of Light, Tommy thought he was a normal kid with a normal life. One day he went to the theater and then a restaurant, when suddenly he was caught in an attack against his grandfather by Shadows and his life is changed forever. He finds out he is actually the Archmage of Light, the most powerful Archmage in the world! Then his grandfather, The Archmage of Destruction, is captured by djinns. Djinns are flying monsters, who, like the Shadows, want the Staff of Light so that humans can’t have it and harm them with its magic.  Solely motivated to save his grandfather and protect the Staff of Light, Tommy learns to control his power. This book is full of betrayal, magic, and strangely intelligent monsters.

Opinion:

This book was well done. I liked that it is set in a realistic world where magic is dying because only a few practice it. The main character (Tommy Black) is made believable because he makes mistakes and suffers from them. My favorite character is Naomi because we share many traits; such as a short temper and being underestimated. My favorite monsters were the Madrid because they were intellectual giant flaming and flying monsters, which made them awesome. I love adventure and magic books, but this was an especially good one.
