Rose Briar will soon find out there is more to everything at Sheppard Institute than she expected. She's sent there after playing a serious prank on her parents. Rose is a headstrong girl who is not happy to be placed in an asylum that was named after a girl she's spent her entire life living up to. The very second she arrives, she is swept up in a whirlwind of medicines, schedules, and therapy sessions. After a first escape attempt, Rose discovers there is no escape. However, a bright spot soon comes into the light. Philip MacGregor starts talking to Rose, and after a while she finds him interesting and a stimulating conversationalist. Rose gets a shock when he gives strange warnings about the asylum therapist and medicines. Philip tells her not to believe everything she sees or hears. And that's just the beginning. This book has secrets around every corner.
Opinion:
This book shows that when you do something that goes against rules or morals, there will be consequences. As Rose finds out things about the asylum, we can see it teaches us that the unseen can be seen; you just need to know how to look and give it time. This book has horror that kids in their teens will love, the romance of a couple that think that they can’t be together, and the mystery of what is to come.
