Elisabeth Scrivener is left as a baby on the doorstep of one of Austermeer's great libraries. From a young age, the wardens and teachers of the library teach Elisabeth that sorcery is a wicked thing that she should avoid at all costs. When a powerful Grimoire is set free of the library, there is no time to think before she must act. Her act of heroism causes Elisabeth to be blamed for a crime she did not commit. In turn all of those she trusts turn their backs on her, with the exception of her best friend, Katrien, who is willing to help her in any way possible.

Being in the forest has always intrigued him, but now he is going to hike new territory for what might be a span of weeks. Along the trail, he is not only faced with the challenge of avoiding rangers who are searching for him, but he must also fend off attacks by hostile spirits of the forest. Will he make it to the tree or will he be stopped along the way by rangers or spirits?

The Ride by Nancy Demme is a book all about the morals of life and about the different people you can meet along the way. Diego, the main character, is just a young man running from the life that was shoved upon him, trying to go anywhere but home. The way that Diego travels is by walking along the road and hitchhiking whenever possible. The people he travels with along the way all reflect the different kinds of people there are in the world, from punks driving huge trucks, to accountants that are happy to talk and share a donut.
