The Problem with Poppy is a book about a porcupine named Poppy who has been having a hard time making friends. When Rory, a tiger cub, meets Poppy’s way, he curiously wants to befriend Poppy, but Poppy, as usual, scares Rory and other animals away. Poppy was saddened by what happened and wanted to change this habit of hers. Determined to make friends, Poppy goes out of her way and does everything she can to make friends again. When Rory got in trouble, Poppy does everything she can to save her newfound friend. Did the friends survive the danger they encountered? Read on as the book unravels the friendship and adventures of Poppy and Rory!

Opinion:

Emma Sandford, the author of The Problem with Poppy, did a wonderful showcase of friendship, loyalty, bravery, and current environmental concerns in one book. As the audience of the book are children, The Problem with Poppy did not hesitate to show environmental concerns that the world is facing today. By doing this, not only does the author make you think about the conflict of Poppy making new friends and the loyalty of Poppy and Rory, but it also makes you ponder on how much animals are affected by actions done by humans. As you read on, the illustrations make you feel like you are part of the story. Viewing the pictures makes you immersed in the jungle as you witness the adventures of Poppy and Rory. The use of words together with the illustrations plus the message of the book invokes a well-rounded story both for children and adults. The book is a real treat for anyone who reads it!
