LitPick Review

In the book Poppy and Marigold there are different territories each with a different color. In Poppy’s blue territory they are taught to think badly about the other territories. They learn that they are the best and the other territories are aggressive, clueless, too earthy, and odd for believing in religious behavior. But one day Poppy accidentally crosses the border and learned something about her territory. When she comes back, she risks being shot and even being sent to a detention center. But later in the book, Poppy is faced with a choice. Should she stay or should she find safety in other territories?
Opinion:
I liked this book. It was very intriguing to see how Poppy changed as a person and her new perspective about her community, the rules, and the way of life. I was also intrigued to see what she would do about the incorrect information about the other territories.
Something I disliked about the format of the book is there are two chapters back to back including the same quotes and events but the second chapter has more information. I found this a little confusing.
I also liked how you could understand Poppy’s perspective on things after she met Marigold and her family. Another thing I liked about this book was the intrigue of the rules Poppy is constantly breaking and the consequences she might face. I think the message of this book was to teach the readers not to judge people without knowing anything about them, and sometimes you need to break a rule for the greater good so you can make changes to help others.
