Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School by Jeff Kinney is yet another funny Greg Heffley book! Greg’s mom thinks everyone in the community should give up electronics, gets involved volunteering for a Park Clean Up Day, and has crazy new plans to potty-train Manny. Greg’s Dad always seems ready to criticize, and Roderick is working as a mascot at Old Timey Ice Cream, which isn’t turning out to be the kind of job he expected. The family pig is back, and now that Leisure Towers’ rent has gone up, Grandpa has moved in with the Heffley family. There’s not enough room for everyone now. Readers also get to laugh through Greg’s experience at camp with Rowley, Mr. Jefferson, and a demonic farmer named Silas Scratch who is on the prowl. You can’t imagine Greg’s surprise when he discovers one of his Dad’s biggest secrets!

Opinion:

How does Jeff Kinney write such a great book about the same family ten times in a row now? I don’t know, but you don’t want to miss all of the adventures or misadventures in this one! Greg’s diary is hand-written every couple of days , and lots of hilarious comic strip pictures add to the story’s action and fun too. It is so easy to read that it is like hanging out with your best friend as he’s telling you about another day in his life. The Heffley’s seem like a traditional American family. Then they always seem to meet the weirdest people, and the weirdest things start happening to them. No situation ever turns out the way everyone thinks it will, and that is what keeps readers coming back to find out what happens next over and over again!

Explain your content rating:

Maybe some readers would think this book makes fun of people, but I think the story and comics are exaggerated that way on purpose. It all makes the book hilarious to read.
