LitPick Review
Growing up a girl and becoming a woman in the current culture of our world is difficult at times and confusing for women as they try to find self-worth and empowerment. Dr. Elinsky has written a book that offers solutions to the self-worth, relationship, and often mental health troubles that women feel because of patriarchal messages and misogynistic ideals. Her book begins in part one with her personal experiences with men, both positive and negative, as she was growing up and entering romantic relationships. Part two then outlines some of the tools and solutions that help women to become "fire women." Some of the strategies include reparenting yourself, knowing your worth, and surrounding yourself with people who bring light into your life. Elinsky retells her own stories and solutions with the openness of a close friend, the candor of a genuine activist, and the grit of a woman who has wisely centered herself as a true "fire woman."
Opinion:
This book is filled with authentic and empowering advice and tools for women in our modern patriarchal society. It feels like conversing with a relatable friend and finding wise counsel from a highly educated professional. This book can and will change lives. If readers want to learn how to shake off old patterns of female pain and become true to their identities as "fire women," this book is the perfect read. It is also important to note that this book is a great book for men to read as well as women as understanding each genders' experiences can help us to move forward in empathetic and respectful ways.
