The Ride by Nancy Demme is a book all about the morals of life and about the different people you can meet along the way. Diego, the main character, is just a young man running from the life that was shoved upon him, trying to go anywhere but home. The way that Diego travels is by walking along the road and hitchhiking whenever possible. The people he travels with along the way all reflect the different kinds of people there are in the world, from punks driving huge trucks, to accountants that are happy to talk and share a donut. When Diego escapes his home, all he has with him are his clothes and some matches. Whenever someone offers a ride, we get a glance into the life of another person living on our Earth. Throughout his journey, he learns how to make money in any way possible: by singing in front of a crowd, painting a barn, or stealing it. Find out how Diego fares in The Ride by Nancy Demme.
Opinion:
The Ride is one of the most fascinating books I have read because it goes into aspects that most books don’t go into. For example, we learn more about the obsession of fire that Diego has. Whenever he is scared or is in a situation that could be a problem, he has a desire to set his surroundings on fire. The plot of this book is interesting. Instead of sticking with one set of characters, this book switches between the different drivers, so Nancy Demme shows you the different aspects of humanity, both the good and the bad. The Ride was a great book, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
