Chel, a teenage girl, is just another girl vacationing in South America until she accidentally travels back in time. Chel’s ancestors were from the Mayan civilization, so that is where she appears. She, in this society or ancient villagers, appears to be the goddess Ix Chel, the goddess of midwives and medicine. Right before she goes back in time, her tour guide tells her that according to the Mayan culture, the day that Chel and her family are on the tour is the day that the world will end. Chel now knows that the reason she was back in time was to stop the world from ending. Will Chel be able to stop humanity from ending?

Opinion:

In my opinion, this book was pretty good. When I was reading the book I was never sure what was going to happen next. It was good because of the way the author portrayed Chel’s emotions. I was not sure if I liked the book when I started reading it, but this is one of the books I’ve read where you quickly get hooked and want to keep reading.

Some stuff the ancient Mayans did was barbaric and gross, but if you think about it, the Mayans did all the stuff in the book, so don’t be surprised. I give this book 3 stars for how well the book was written. In it, the book portrays emotion, hope, and longing for family. I recommend this book to ages 13 and older who read historical fiction.

Explain your content rating:

There is some innuendo, including actual sex. However, this does come with the territory of the ancient Mayans.
