LitPick Review
In the book American Panda by Gloria Chao, seventeen-year-old Mei Lu should be in high school but is instead a freshman at college. She is so smart and advanced, but she struggles with her desire to have approval from her parents. After her brother gets disowned, Mei struggles with keeping her parents happy. Since her brother, Xing, took all of her parents' attention, now it is all up to Mei. Her parents want her to be a doctor, but she would rather be a dance teacher.
Opinion:
I loved this book! At first it was difficult to get into, but then it captured my attention. The plot and all of the characters were strong. My favorite animal is a panda, so that's how this book caught my eye. Although it wasn't exactly about pandas, I see how they fit in.
After seeing the character Mei go through this journey, I realized I don’t have it bad at all. I felt empathy toward her. If I were going through what Mei experienced, I would probably act the same way. I would like to read more books by Gloria Cho.
