Seaborne: Strangers in Atlantis is a thrilling and captivating story full of mystery, adventure and pirates! Thirteen-year-old Dean, the main character, wants nothing more than to leave his old life of piracy and spying behind. But after he is caught and tried for piracy and sentenced to a dim life in prison for the next ninety-five years, things aren't shaping up the way Dean thought they would.

Surprisingly, Dean is rescued by an old man named Skinner. In exchange for helping Dean out of prison, Skinner asks Dean if he will help steal gold from the fabled city of Aquatica. Of course, being a pirate, Skinner makes sure Dean doesn't really have a choice in the matter. Suddenly, Dean and his two friends are thrust into an adventure that is far more exciting than just helping pirates loot a city. Instead, the three friends find themselves in the middle of a brewing civil war, deep down in the city of Atlantis!

Opinion:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was exciting, full of mystery, and fast-paced. The main character, Dean, and his two friends, Ronan and Waverly, take the stage during this thrilling tale. Despite all of the adventure throughout the book, the author still makes room for some brimming friendship troubles under the surface. I feel as if the author could have focused on this a bit more during the story, but it was still a great novel! There are numerous "background" characters to keep track of during the story, but the author does a good job of helping the reader keep them all straight.

This middle grade book is extremely fast-paced and easily holds the reader captive with all of its twists and turns. However, since this book is the second in a series, I recommend reading the first book before this one. The story definitely leaves holes that the reader can’t fill for lack of knowledge.

For those who enjoy pirates, fantasy, and action-packed adventure, Seaborne: Strangers in Atlantis is definitely the book for you!
