The Whisperer is a book about two thirteen year old boys named Lute and Griff, who live in Drestonia.  Griff is the son of a poor falconer.  He lives with his father and two older brothers.  One day, a traveling show comes to their small town.  The show amazes Griff's two older brothers so much that they choose to join the show.  Griff goes with them.

Lute is the Crown Prince of Drestonia. He is weak and scared of everyone around him, until a guide named Pilo steps up and takes care of the young prince.  Pilo teaches him to become stronger and more secure around other people.

Everything is going great for both Lute and Griff, until Lute's Uncle Janko comes back for a visit.  Queen Miralda is convinced that Janko is out to harm Lute, so she makes sure Pilo keeps an extra close watch on Lute.  Finally, her worst fears come true as Janko makes an attempt on Lute's life, and Lute is forced to run for his life.  Griff is working at the traveling show, when suddenly he hears Lute's voice in his head, and decides to find a way to help him.  Why can Griff hear Lute's voice in his head?  What will happen to Lute?  And how will Griff find a way to help him?  Find out in The Whisperer!

Opinion:

I thought The Whisperer was a great book!  It was filled with action, mystery, and suspense.  I liked how the author, Fiona McIntosh, did a great job describing the characters and their lives, like how Lute is a boy who doesn’t really want to be king, but knows that it is his destiny.  A part in the book that I liked was when Griff thought up a clever way to get some keys from one of the people in the traveling show.  I can’t tell you who it was or what they were for, though, or I would ruin the story; you will just have to read it to find out for yourself.  I don’t think there was anything about this book that I didn’t like.  I would recommend this book to anyone ages ten through fifteen or anyone who likes adventure books.
