In the beginning of this story, a girl Magpie and a boy Dilly are trying to fight a witch that has cast a spell over Dilly's father in a magical world. They meet up with some old friends of Magpie's and need to come up with a solution to deal with this evil witch. They combine their powers with a friend named Smudge (who is looking after the children) to deal with the witch. Will they save Dilly's father and keep their own?
This was a really well written book. It had a lot of plot twists, surprises, and some action all mixed together very well. The main character is named Cyn Hargrave, and she is not your normal teenager. She can take in souls into her own body, and they live there until they can get into the afterlife. These people are called echos. She has no control over the souls in her body, and they can take her over at any time. They cause Cyn to black out, and they can take over her body. The other main character is a demon named Avian. Heaven didn't want him, and hell shunned him.

Buster came every summer break and the 2 boys fished, played pranks, and played lots of baseball when Henry didn’t have to work for his dad. One summer Henry found Buster and Sally, who is a neighbor of Henry’s, sitting on Sally’s porch and talking.

Annie realizes Molly is her grandma when her grandma was her age.
