Deza Malone, the main character in The MightyMiss Malone is an enthusiastic, realistic little black girl living through the great depression.  Her mom holds a job, but her dad can’t find work. Deza sees herself as a great author and a girl who will go far in life. But in a freak boating accident where her dad is injured and four other men die, Deza’s great outlook is starting to get dimmer. When her dad leaves trying to find a job and the task of dealing with the deaths of his friends, he suddenly disappears not to be heard from again. Deza and her family are forced to go in search for him.  All their searching leads to just more dead end.  It looks like they will never find out what really happened to their Dad and husband. What will the Malone family do?

Opinion:

The MightyMiss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis has become one of my favorite books.  It's well written, and you really get a good feel for Deza and all her troubles.  This book is easy to fall in love with and just leaves you wanting more!
