In the book American Panda by Gloria Chao, seventeen-year-old Mei Lu should be in high school but is instead a freshman at college. She is so smart and advanced, but she struggles with her desire to have approval from her parents. After her brother gets disowned, Mei struggles with keeping her parents happy. Since her brother, Xing, took all of her parents' attention, now it is all up to Mei. Her parents want her to be a doctor, but she would rather be a dance teacher.

This book packs all a good book needs: love, mystery, and adventure. The main character is Charlotte Peyton who is a teenager growing up in northern Virginia. Her one true passion lies in journalism. While in high school, she shares many of struggles teenagers have faced while pursuing their dream. Along the way is Mason, a boy for whom she must manage her feelings. Add that on top of a project to solve that she takes upon herself after a tragic event happens in her community, and Charlotte has to determine what’s best for her in the end.

Achoo! Baby Bear is allergic to pollen. And he gets covered in it as soon as he wakes up from his long winter hibernation! As he struggles to get rid of the sticky yellow dust covering his fur, Baby Bear decides he does NOT like pollen. He even says that he wishes pollen didn't exist. But as his other animal friends wake up, Baby bear learns that pollen does a lot more than just make him sneeze. In fact, many other animals and insects rely on pollen. His friends Sandy Spiderling, Zoe Zebra Butterfly, and some honey bee larvae even eat it!

Auma’s Long Run is about an African American girl named Auma who finds herself in the midst of an outbreak of a terrible disease. Auma is a runner. She loves running for her school and hopes to use her skills to one day earn a scholarship to high school so she can begin to study to become a doctor. This dream, unfortunately, is far-fetched. Not many women in Auma’s small African village are able to do anything besides marry and have kids. 

Lada Dragwlya has claimed Wallachia as her own since birth. It is her homeland, the place where her ambition was fostered and her spine of steel cast. After being taken from and left in an enemy empire by her father, Lada's life is one of survival: she must return to Wallachia. However, for all her physical fierceness of unbeaten record of fights, the force of the Ottoman Empire is not something she can win over by simply slashing a sword at it.
