LitPick Review
Joel Levy’s Why? Answers to Everyday Scientific Questions is chock full of information. Short articles that begin with one sentence summaries answer more than 50 different questions about “Nature and the Earth,” “The Human Body and Mind,” and “Physics and Space.” If you have ever asked yourself questions like “Why are there 365 days in a year?” “Why is blood red?” or “Why does the sea appear blue?” then you’ll find clearly written answers in this book. Many of the articles have simple drawings or charts that explain the answer to the question better. The end of the book also has a list of web sites and books that can be researched for more information about each topic or even to find out what’s new and cutting edge in science.
Opinion:
I like reading this little paperback that has information on so many scientific topics in it. It’s handy to have around when I only need a basic answer to a question that I’ve been wondering about. It’s also useful to browse for fun facts and trivia. This is another book that can be read in any order and doesn’t have to be read front to back. It’s really convenient when I only have a few minutes to read. Even if I don’t know what I want to read, it has an index, so I can easily flip to the right page for any interesting topic that catches my eye.
