When Peg the Pig wants to start the carousel ride at the zoo, animals of all different species want to join in on the fun. There are pigs, horses, monkeys, penguins, otters, billy goats, lions, tiger, and even giraffes that want to take a fun ride together. Everyone is invited, so come join along for a fun ride with Peg the Pig as the conductor!
In this second book of the Peg the Pig series, Ms. Welton has also written this story to the sing-song famous jingle “The Wheels on the Bus” that everyone knows. Her narrative easily has readers falling into reciting her story to that famous children’s tune, which adds an additional layer of fun to the reader’s overall enjoyment of this book as a whole.
Opinion:
I really enjoyed this second addition in Peg the Pig series! This is one of those books that readers of all ages will immediately get drawn into the storyline. She writes in such a way that as soon as you start reading her story, you immediately go into the musical cadence of “The Wheels on the Bus,” and you just can’t help but smile as you see each of the zoo animals climb aboard the beautifully colored carousel at the zoo. I feel that children and adults alike will feel so happy while reading this story and will even walk away thinking about it long after reading it.
I also feel this is one of those perfect stories that children can see how animals of all species, no matter how big or small they might be, can come together and have fun with one another. I feel this teaches children that no matter how different you might be from someone else, we can all get along with each other and be friends.
The illustrations provided by Tamara Joubert were done in soft tones and looked to have brushstroke textures in them. Each illustration encompassed the full page and provided the readers with plenty of details to submerge themselves into as they turned the pages. These fun pictures were found on every page of this entertaining children’s story. Ms. Joubert has been professionally illustrating for 18 years, and her current areas of interest are illustrating for children’s books and comics.

From the fun cadence of the story set to the childhood famous jingle to all the wonderful zoo animals taking a ride on the carousel, readers will come away feeling a warm and fuzzy feeling inside after reading this children’s story. I highly recommend it!
