As the Christmas season is approaching, everyone is in a festive spirit. But when eerie blue lights illuminate the night sky with no reason of where they came from or why they are even there, the entire town is in a frenzy trying to solve this mystery. Without a doubt, sisters Isla and Mae decide to take on this new mystery by researching all they can about the Northern Lights. As they are researching this phenomena, all their electronics go on the fritz except their iPad, which displays some sort of pattern of lights.
The Donaldson family is visited by yet another eccentric family member. This time it is Aunt Mary, their mom’s cousin. Mary is an artistic soul, but very rude to everyone. The only one who seems to care a bit that Aunt Mary is staying awhile with them, while she attends a local art restoration masterclass, is Isla because they are both artists. But when the girls see Aunt Mary drawing strange pictures, of course they’re curious to find out what they mean. And why are the pictures so strange?
While sisters Isla and Mae are preparing their camping site with their father, an unexpected rainstorm moves in making them take cover in their tents. While looking out of their tents as the rain becomes heavier, the girls can’t believe their eyes. Standing next to their tents is a young boy looking at them who is bone dry and not saying a word to either one of them. Then the unthinkable happens.
Yet again, Uncle Bill has decided to show up unannounced at the Donaldson family’s home, hoping he can stay a few days with them like he has done in the past. The morning after his arrival, the message ‘Is it safe’ is fingered in the condensation on the glass of the kitchen window. No one understands how or why this message is on the window. Uncle Bill says he was just pulling a prank on the family, but sisters Isla and Mae have a gut feeling he’s lying to everyone.
When sisters Mae and Isla Donaldson begin to notice some strange things happening around their town of Cockermouth, they do what they both do best. Mae takes to writing things in code in her journal to help her recall details about things that she can refer to later on. Only she understands her coded writing. Isla, her younger sister, loves to draw everything in her sketch book. She draws things that catch her eye, including things that seem strangely happening in their town.
On a hot summer night, Johnny is riding his bike when all of a sudden he crashes into a large cardboard box. He goes flying off his bike from the impact. When he finally looks in the box, he is greeted by two pair of eyes staring back at him. So starts a fun and unique friendship between Johnny, Lloyd the Duck, and Harriette the Hen.
