A big storm rolls in causing huge waves crashing onto the beach along with heavy winds blowing the trees all around. After the storm, Myrtle and Max Turtle go for a swim. While in the water, they see the sand full of sea stars all stranded on the beach because they are tangled up into the sea kelp and can’t get free. Max swims over and asks if they need help. Once they tell him they do, he gets as many of the animals together to do a rescue mission. Are the animals able to free all the sea stars and bring them back to the ocean safely?
Opinion:
This was a really adorable story for readers of all ages to enjoy. I loved reading how the two sea turtles realized the sea stars needed help and they didn’t hesitate to call upon the other nearby animals to help them rescue the sea stars. It teaches children that even if you are different than someone else, if that person or animal needs help, lend a hand and see how you can help them out. This is a beautiful lesson that children could learn at a young age and easily take it into their adulthood.
Another lesson that rang true throughout was how all the animals came together and worked as a team to rescue the helpless sea stars. This also teaches children that if you work as a team, you can accomplish so much more together. It was wonderful seeing turtles, seagulls, dolphins and even sea otters coming together to work side-by-side to find a resolution to the sea stars’ problem.
