It’s Sleepover Saturday and Amelia has invited her best friend, Eleanor, over to stay the night. They have been best friends since they were babies. These ten-year-olds do everything together and have love and respect for one another. Along the way, they made friends with Orbit, who was born during the Covid-19 pandemic when the world was hurting. He is on a special mission to find out what Amelia and Eleanor have done throughout their ten years together that have made them the best friends they are today.

Orbit finds out that best friends always use kind words with each other even when you are mad because you can’t take mean words away after they are said to someone. Friends always help each other with whatever they might need assistance on and friends share things together. He also learns you should never bully anyone and treat others with kindness as you hope to be treated in return. In addition to all these great things, respect is also taking care of yourself in regard to being kind and not thinking critical of yourself. Does Orbit learn everything he needs to learn from Amelia and Eleanor?

Opinion:

I thought this was such a wonderful book for young readers to enjoy. The whole idea of Amelia and Eleanor being friends since birth was such a sweet thing to learn about the girls. Plus, this book was dedicated to the real Amelia and Eleanor who the book was written about. These two girls have been in each other’s lives since birth and have been best friends for ten years. They go to school and do everything outside of school together. This book is one of those feel-good stories that you would gladly read to your children or have them read to you.

This is book five in the series in which Ms. Maille has chosen a topic for each book to be dedicated to such things as kindness, empathy, gratitude, positivity, and this last one, respect. I hadn’t had the opportunity to review the previous four books in the series, but based on this one, no doubt the author has hit it on the head with the topics she chose for each of her children’s books. She had dedicated her time, effort, and love to teaching children that each word is a powerful attribute you should take seriously toward others. In this book, she dedicated her time reflecting how respecting others should be a priority because to get respect, you must give respect. I honestly don’t recall another powerful series that had this much teaching potential for children to walk away with strong, solid lessons.  More children’s books should be dedicated to important topics such as these to teach them at young ages to be the best they can be starting when they are young.

Remesh Ram, co-owner and Managing Director at Prayan Animation Studio, has provided 18+ years of experience creating countless illustrations for children worldwide. The illustrations he has provided in this delightful children’s book could be found on every page and encompassed the entire page for readers to thoroughly enjoy. The colors were vibrant and eye-catching, allowing readers to pause to appreciate the illustrations just as much as the written word. He did a remarkable job telling Amelia, Eleanor, and Orbit’s story through the amusing illustrations he created.

When Ruth Maille writes children’s stories she’s writing with 33 years of experience as a daycare owner, preschool teacher, and certified parent coach. Her passion is to teach children emotional intelligence and empathy, and she has successfully done so in the “Power Of” series.

Overall, The Power of Respect: Forever Friends is a story that will delight readers young and old. They will enjoy not only getting to know the believable characters, but also the powerful message that respect is very important in friendship and in self-love as well. This book comes highly recommended! Well done, Ms. Maille!
