Val is just a regular 16-year-old boy living with his mother in a world filled with plague and crime. One day while on a field trip with his school, Val's school bus gets into a crash, and Val gets transported to a magical world. He finds a large group of other children around his age, and they meet the so-called "All-Father". He tells them that their world has been destroyed, and they are now the chosen few who have been transported to the world of the gods. The children are sorted into clans, and they start school to learn about the gods and train to gain the powers the gods have. However, as time goes on, Val notices that children go missing. But why would a god kidnap some of the children, and what is he doing with them? It's up to Val and his friends Alex and Alice to find out and save the children before it is too late.

Opinion:

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. The first thing I liked about this book was the setting. This book was set in Odinsall, which is very different from the world we live in, as the world is ruled by gods and the students learn magic. The author did a great job of explaining the setting and the roles of the people in Odinsall, which helped me understand what was going on in the story. Another thing I liked was that the author used a lot of different descriptive terms when talking about the scenery such as explaining how vast and spooky the woods were, which brought the various areas of Odinsall to life. Lastly, I really enjoyed the character development of the main character, Val. I was able to see the growth and changes in Val as time progressed in the story such as how his personality changed when he felt trusted by his friends again. The one thing that I did not like was that the pacing at the beginning of the story was very fast, which caused the first few chapters of the story to be confusing; though I found the pacing for the rest of the book was great. I highly recommend this book to readers looking for an exciting fantasy or adventure book!
