Miss Brown's Christmas is about two lonely people, Tim and Emily, and their surprising experiences of finding love, in both unexpected and magical ways during Christmas time. Emily is carrying some heavy memories from her last Christmas in her hometown in Pennsylvania. She moves to New York after a heart-breaking break-up and begins working as a librarian. Tim moves from Ohio to pursue a great job offer in New York. He visits the library where Emily works and feels relaxed and recharged. It becomes like his own personal oasis and where he ends up getting acquainted with Emily. While they both feel somewhat lonely and have no plans for Christmas, Niels becomes a kind and heartwarming friend to both Tim and Emily. It is Niels's Christmas Eve plan that brings a great surprise for Emily and Tim that may just be what they need to heal their lonely hearts.

Opinion:

Miss Brown's Christmas brings you to beautiful Manhattan during Christmas with warm and romantic imagery. The author describes the setting so well that you feel like walking with Emily in downtown Manhattan in the cold yet beautiful Christmas season. Emily's relationship challenges could be relatable to a lot of potential readers. The way she listens to Mary's advice and applies it to heal her past can speak to many readers. Tim, who has no siblings and deceased parents, is trying to navigate his new chapter of life. It seems challenging for him to do this while also getting used to living in a new city. The fact that he found his own relaxing spot, the library, was a great example of how others can overcome unfamiliar situations in life by finding an oasis. I pictured Niels like my grandpa, who is so nice and kind to all. He is not afraid of talking to strangers and has a caring heart for all. Mary's priceless advice is something I could use to teach my own kids. Recognizing and embracing the important people in our lives is great advice. It took me less than two hours to finish this book, and it was a great page-turner. I felt like I gained wisdom and traveled to a magical time in New York for Christmas. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to visualize New York at Christmas and needs to be reminded that you are not alone. Special people are all around us.
