LitPick Review
Emily Brown is happy with her life in New York City... or at least that's what she tells herself. She has a great job in one of the best libraries in the world and gets to experience the big city during its magical holiday season. But Emily just doesn't quite feel happy. Maybe it's her recent breakup with Dan, the man she thought she would marry, or the strain the break-up has caused on her relationship with her parents. Even though she is surrounded by people in the city, Emily feels lonely. Especially with Christmas coming up and no one to spend it with, Emily starts to feel even more and more alone. While working at the library, Emily meets a kind man named Tim. Tim seems just as lonely as her, and Emily immediately knows she likes him. Will she be able to get over her fear of getting her heart broken? And is Tim the one she is looking for?
Opinion:
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. First, I really liked how despite the story being a romance, we got to learn a lot about Emily's character. The author did a great job of describing her quiet but charming personality through her interactions with other characters and her recollection of past events. I felt that this made the story more interesting and made us root for Emily to find love since we already got to know her personality so well. I also think the author did a great job with the pacing of the story. This book was on the shorter side, but I felt that it was the perfect length. The author was able to give us a good understanding of the characters and the story without stretching out the storyline for too long, which is something I often see in romance novels. Lastly, I think the author did a great job of describing the settings of the city, such as central park. I was able to visualize all the scenes of the big city very well! Overall, I highly recommend this book to readers looking for a short and sweet romance full of holiday cheer!
