LitPick Review
Maddy and Grace Solve the Crime is a thirty-six-page picture book that prompts Maddy and Grace to try to solve why the neighborhood packages are disappearing. The people of the neighborhood called the police, and they said to stay alert for anything unusual. Soon rumors started about a kid named Billy who cut school a lot because he was picked on at school. Maddy and Grace decided to set a trap using a wrapped box with a bell on it, but that idea did not catch the thief. Across from Billy’s house a new “For Sale” sign was on the lawn, and the grass was tall. Maddy and Grace heard a strange noise at the house for sale and looked through a crawl space window. What they saw was a surprise, and Billy also had some useful information as well about what happened in the crawl space and the disappearing packages.
Opinion:
Maddy and Grace Solve the Crime is a great story that shows the reader not to blame others unless they know the whole story and that rumors are hurtful. Maddy and Grace are very helpful and even when they get scared or hurt do not give up the quest to solve the crime. The illustrations are simple and directly fit with the description in the story. The neighborhood is diversified culturally in the pictures, and the expression on their faces show just how scared they are about the stolen packages. Great story that addresses a kid being picked on, a neighborhood that helps one another, and a book that has a very happy ending.
