When Macadoo is just a colt, he challenges his father, who is a huge Belgian stallion, in order protect his mother. His father shares a few words of wisdom that Macadoo will remember for the rest of his life. Soon thereafter, Macadoo is transported to a kill auction. However, a kind gentleman gives Macadoo another chance at life. Eventually, he finds a home. Along with Izzy, Poppa, and their mules, Macadoo will endure many adventures. Along the way, Macadoo wonders what his purpose in life is. In the end, he will come to rest at The Maury River Stables where Macadoo teaches therapeutic riding and vaulting. Will Macadoo learn his purpose? Read Macadoo of the Maury River to find out!

Opinion:

Macadoo of the Maury River is a fascinating book that will keep readers on the edge of their seat until the end. The only critical observation about the book is the slower middle section in which the book loses excitement. Recovery is made, however, because the ending speeds into a dramatic conclusion. The book is told from Macadoo’s point of view, which makes the story entertaining to read. The age limit for the book should be for nine to twelve year olds. Macadoo of the Maury River is a thrilling book that horse lovers everywhere will adore!
