The Fifth Hero: Race to Erase is a book about Jarret, Lina, Agnes, and Malik. The four of them are part of a Climate Club hosted by Lina’s parents, the owners of Calamity Corporation, a company that creates space communities and helps save the earth. One day, they all go over to Lina's house to celebrate her birthday. There, Jarret, Malik, and Agnes overhear a concerning conversation between Lina's older brother Tommy and her parents. Tommy has a top-secret project, The Four Powerful Obliteration of Natural Existence Spheres, four spheres that will ruin Earth. But why would Tommy and Lina's parents, the owners of Calamity Corporation, want to destroy Earth? The kids quickly scramble away before Tommy can realize they overheard his conversation and decide to forget about it. But when Lina takes them all on a ride in the pink Fuel Fighter, the spaceship where Tommy has loaded The Four Powerful Obliteration of Natural Existence Spheres, they are quickly forced to get involved. Will Jarret, Lina, Agnes, Malik, and YOU the reader be able to save planet Earth before it’s too late?

Opinion:

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book.  The beginning of the story was very interesting and immediately pulled me into the world of the climate club and all their individual motives and worries, such as Jarret fearing nature but wanting to stay in the climate club. This can help teach readers about how to better understand aspects of nature that they may be initially scared of such as wild animals or bugs. I also really enjoyed the imagery the author used to describe nature, such as the forest behind Lina’s house, especially since it was such a big part of the book. I think the author did a great job of portraying the beauty in nature through very descriptive vocabulary. After finishing the first few chapters, I was able to reach the point where I was able to make my first choice as the reader. I found it interesting how you as the reader were able to become immersed in the story and make your own choices that impacted the ending of the book. I also like how when you finish the book you can go back and see the alternate endings or make a different choice and just explore where it leads you. I enjoyed this aspect of the book, and I think it really helped capture my attention and made me feel as if I was inside the story. I also liked the pace of the story as there weren’t any parts where I felt bored. Overall, I highly recommend this book to readers who are looking for an exciting choose-your-own adventure book.
