Shannon Burke, a girl about to turn 18, works a part-time job to help make ends meet at home. When she finally turns 18, her mother co-signs her craft shop with her.  On the evening of her birthday night, a devastating phone call interrupts their celebration stating her aunt Rebecca had died. Shannon finds out that her aunt left a camper in her name as a gift. A map had been found in the glove compartment of that same van soon after Shannon had lost her job. Following in the wild and adventurous footsteps of her aunt Rebecca, she takes the map and navigates the scary journey. She follows the path that her aunt left for her, all the while a family secret unfolds before her.

Opinion:

As soon as I started the book, I already knew that I would like it, be absorbed in its pages, and melt in the story. It was mainly because as someone who is turning 18, I’d have loved to experience a scavenger hunt of a journey like that of the main characters. It was truly a touching and heartfelt story that mirrors a young person finding themselves in life. I also really did enjoy the messages of the book, one being: experience the beauty and wonder that is just out there waiting to be found. As realistic as it is, even though it is fiction, I wish it was longer! All in all it is a great coming-of-age story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who’s figuring things out or stuck in whatever is keeping them at a crossroads. I’m glad I read this book at this time, yet sooner would have been much better too when I was struggling with myself.  This truly is a beautiful read.
