The Gardens of Sir Verity
Benjamin Sheppard
Synopsis: Timothy Novison thinks he has it all planned. But on the way to confess his feelings for his close friend Holly, he and his best friend Andy are involved in a car accident; leaving Andy in a coma and Tim with guilty feelings. Asked by Andy’s mother to keep the bedside vigil on the hours that she can’t, Tim meets Mr. Savonet, a retired schoolteacher whose goal is to write a novel before he dies.

Mr. Savonet seeks to instruct young Timothy who has become depressed, especially when he finds that his feelings for Holly aren’t shared. While Tim struggles to win her over, Mr. Savonet uses the adventures of his book’s three main characters: Pith, Sage & Moxie, who must travel through the fictitious Gardens of Sir Verity, to introduce Tim to the lessons he needs to learn.

But Mr. Savonet’s condition is worsening. And in order for Timothy to learn the most important lesson of all, he has no choice but to come face to face with Sir Verity himself.

Alternating between a suburban Long Island setting and the fictional Gardens of Sir Verity, readers are introduced to lessons needed to cope with and overcome disillusionment, heartbreak, and the need to let some things go. This newly revised edition features a more streamlined plot to appeal to a wider market, a refinement of the writing and dialogue, as well as an update to the technology referenced in the story in a time before smart phones and text messaging.

See for yourself why not understanding is the first requirement.

~*~

From the Back Cover:

She's out of place.

He's out of time.

In 1956, clever spin doctoring and a string of pre-fab hits turn Joseph Temporelli into Joey Tempo, the biggest sensation to hit the Memphis music scene since Elvis Presley. Within twelve months he's gone-killed in a transatlantic plane crash.

55 years later, Callie Reinard diligently plans for college and a career in radio. When she discovers Joey Tempo's iconic first album, her desire to change his fate opens a doorway through time to 1957.

She stops Joey from boarding the plane that will take his life, but then finds herself trapped in the 1950s, where equal rights are as foreign a concept as missions to the moon. The future she so tirelessly worked toward now seems out of reach, and her liberated attitude jeopardizes the second chance she envisioned for Joey and his music career.

Worst of all, if Callie can't find a way back to her own time soon, she may lose more than a college education and the career she's always wanted. She may lose her heart to a boy she can't have.

The Loyal Servant and the Faithful Donkey (Carol's Parables)
Synopsis: The Loyal Servant and the Faithful Donkey is a short story for both adults and children. It's loosely based on the ‘Parable of the Tenants’ in Matthew 21:33-41 and Mark 12:1-10. The story touches on our array of human nature, from its most beautiful and loving, to its ugliest and most foul.

The tenant's are a family who are rescued out of impending poverty by a kindly farmer and given a second chance, but they forget the grace he had afforded them. Instead they become embroiled in their own bitterness, envy and greed. The consequences are dire for the farmer’s servants, son and eventually the family too.

The story focuses on the donkey who dutifully pulls the cart that takes the servants to the vineyard. Before leaving for distant lands, the farmer and his new tenants had made an agreement that the rent would be paid with a share of the harvest. However, when the time comes, the donkey returns to the farmer again and again with injured servants and an empty cart. This eventually leads to a misunderstanding and the donkey being brutally beaten by a crowd, instigated by one of the servant’s wives.

The story takes some unexpected twists and turns as the woman learns a powerful lesson of forgiveness, and true friendship triumphs over evil.

I hope that you enjoy this story and will be inspired to read the Parable.
