IN HIS FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS is an adventure book by Bev Irwin, which tells about Jason's journey as he embarked on a search for his lost father. Jason, a young boy, alongside his brother and mother, awaits his father's return from his usual hunting trip. This time it was taking longer than expected, and Jason feared that his father might be in danger. When he could no longer cope with his absence, Jason decided to search for his father. He got his things ready and set off to his uncle's place, hoping to find his dad taking a rest there. Unfortunately for him, his dad was nowhere near his uncle's house, and his uncle, who he thought would assist him in this search, was now seriously injured. Jason now has to continue this dangerous journey on his own. Would he survive and bring his father home?
Opinion:
The plot of IN HIS FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS is quite gripping; it brings us into the life of a young boy as he begins his search for his dad, and as a reader, I was unsure of what to expect from his father's absence. It explains Jason's survival in the wild by pointing out techniques he implemented to save resources, such as food rationing, and his escape from wild animals like lions. He also remembered his father's teaching on how to catch a fish, and he used this to feed himself. Being a young character, Jason demonstrated qualities such as being brave and determined. Even when he was faced with dangerous animals, he treaded cautiously making sure that he stays safe. Since searching for his father was his priority, he tried his best to make sure he accomplished that. The novel would undeniably keep a reader pinned down to the end as the urge to find out what happens next becomes stronger. Overall, the book satisfies me as a reader, and the content was well written and professionally edited.
