The ocean is an important part of people's daily lives, more than they often realize. Did you know that 70% of the air we breathe comes from the ocean and that the ocean is a huge part of our economy and medical industry?  Humans depend on the ocean to live, but we have not been taking care of the oceans properly. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean. Empty Ocean is a non-fiction book that tells the story of the ocean and the things we can do to keep our precious oceans safe. From endangered animals to knowing what type of fish is the best to eat, Empty Ocean is the perfect book for anyone hoping to make a difference in saving our oceans!

Opinion:

This is an awesome book! Even though it is mostly written in picture book form, I think any reader (even adults) could benefit from reading this book. The facts about the ocean are presented in a very clear way, accompanied by accurate drawings that help you understand the facts you are learning. Additionally, I really liked how the author explained the problems that are currently going on with the ocean and then offered the readers simple things they can do to help solve these problems! I also liked how the author started off by giving an overview of all the amazing things the ocean does.  A lot of these facts were ones I did not previously know and made the solutions for saving the oceans seem more important and meaningful. The author also used very simple vocabulary throughout the book, making it easy for any reader, even very young readers, to understand the book! Overall, this is the perfect book for anyone who wants to learn about the oceans and how they can help!
