Florenda and her mom live in a small town in Louisiana where Florenda's mom works as a nurse. On the last day of school, everyone is looking forward to summer break when the principal makes an exciting announcement. Starting at the beginning of the new school year, Florenda's school will offer a band class. Florenda is super excited and knows right away that she wants to play the clarinet. As soon as Florenda's mom gets home, she tells her the exciting news and her mom agrees to take her to the instrument store in the next few days.
