Alex and Avery are two teenagers who live in the sleepy town of Cataluna Island. Every year tourists flock to Cataluna Island to enjoy the beaches, but Alex and Avery are focused on something much more important. They are both interns at the local rescue center, where they work to protect the island's turtles. When Avery finds a turtle washed up on the beach with an X written on its shell in red, he knows something fishy is going on.  He tells Alex, and they investigate around town, but Alex and Avery feel like they are missing something. When another turtle washes up, they realize that someone might be deliberately trying to send a message. But who could it be? A tourist visiting? Or a local fisherman like Alex's own family? Whoever it is, Alex and Avery know they must stop it before too many turtles lose their lives.

Opinion:

Overall, I really liked this book. It was interesting to read a book set in a town like Cataluna Island with lots of beach activities and tourists. I have never thought about how locals who live in touristy towns feel, so it was interesting to read Alex's feelings about her hometown. In addition, I liked how through Alex's work at the rescue center, the reader got to learn about what goes on inside a wildlife rescue center, specifically for turtles. The mystery was suspenseful, and I liked how there were multiple suspects throughout the story, so the reader could follow along and try to solve the mystery on their own as well throughout the story. Lastly, I liked how the author included black and white drawings of some of the scenes, as this helped me visualize what the characters looked like. This book is perfect for readers who like mysteries or ocean wildlife.
