Larry The Llama Learns About Love: Love is a Fruit of the Spirit, written by J. M. Ashmore, is a children's book about loving those around you and receiving love from those same people.

Larry is a llama who was hired for his very first job of working on a farm. His role was to protect the baby farm animals from harm. Larry takes great pride in caring for his farmland friends because he knows how important they are to the farmer. In turn, he hopes the farmer will be proud of him for doing such a good job as protector.

One particular night when a storm rolled into the farm, Larry’s curiosity took him away from the farm and a baby lamb followed him. Both became lost and Larry’s fear was that they would never be found. He, too, was so worried that he had disappointed the farmer who was relying on him to protect the babies he loved so much.

Opinion:

Larry The Llama Learns About Love: Love is a Fruit of the Spirit, written by J. M. Ashmore, is a beautiful picture book that takes place on a farm. A unique aspect of this farm is that it is a baby animal farm.  In a classic animal farm story, the animal protector would be a dog. In this storyline, however, the protector is a llama and this twist on character brings forth a delightful story filled with creativity for children to enjoy!

The introduction to this storyline was a bit slow; however, it picked up pace within the first few pages. I do not think this would deter a child’s interest as the book brings forth a great deal of enjoyment for its readers as the story progresses.

I found the theme of this story to be captivating as it explains how one does not have to be perfect and do everything right in order to be loved. It teaches multiple lessons about growing up, making mistakes, and how forgiveness is such an important part of life.

My favorite aspect of this book was the illustrations. The pictures in a children’s book are such an important part of telling the story. This book did not disappoint. The pictures were classic and beautiful. Every picture fits perfectly with the story. The illustrations included different animals and were beautifully depicted.  My favorite animal in this book was Lily the lamb. Lily was adorable, and her illustration conveyed childlike innocence making it apparent to those who cannot read yet. Children will be mesmerized by the pictures in this book.

This is the type of book children will enjoy listening to before bed and parents will enjoy reading to their children. I am giving “Larry The Llama Learns About Love: Love is a Fruit of the Spirit” By J. M. Ashmore a five-star rating.
