You have probably heard of the labyrinth, but do you know the story behind it? In Phillip W. Simpson’s Minotaur, he tells the story of Asterion, who will become Minotaur. Asterion has a good life, living in King Minos’ palace. Everything is great until Minos punishes him for accidentally hurting his half-sister, Phaedra, who has been his friend from a young age. Asterion avoids Minos’ rage, but he is afraid that because Minos cannot harm him, he will hurt his friends and family. He flees his home island of Crete and meets a fellow-traveler who eventually becomes his closest friend. Asterion’s friend, in a rage, kills Asterion’s brother, and Minos takes the opportunity to blame the death on Asteron. It leaves us with questions only answered if you read the book: Is Minos really Asterion’s father? Who is Asterion’s friend? And most importantly, what is the fate of Asterion?

Opinion:

Minotaur was a good book, full of mystery, bravery, battles, and caring. If you like action books, you will enjoy this one. While  reading it, I never knew what to expect next. Phillip W. Simpson constantly pulled curveballs on me. This book is an amazing work of literacy, and I recommend it for ages 10 and up. I’ll be keeping a look out for a sequel of this amazing adventure story!
