LitPick Review
The book Lost in the Woods, is about a group of Christian boys going camping. Their leader is Chet was a former gang leader in New York. Chet works with the assistant leader, Gary and the camp chef, Bill. There are many boys in the camp, but this book singles out Zack. The boys and their leaders take a bus to the campsite and there they hike to a deserted area in the woods with nothing to distract them from their purpose of getting to know each other and worship God. They go through a small trial, which includes bugs and lots of bug bites, and learn to pray about it. One night, Zack has a stomach ache and while going to the bathroom he got side tracked and wound up lost. In the morning the others got up and had breakfast. When Zack did not return everyone else was worried. They organized a search party and still could not find him. Will they find Zack? How will Zack survive with no food or water and how will he use his faith to get him through? Find out in this exciting book by Cheryl Rogers.
Opinion:
This book is a fun short book for a younger audience. I am 11 and thought this book should be longer and more developed. It could use better character description, or maybe a few less dominant characters as there seemed to be lots of different dialogue to keep up with. Also, one chapter about praying to take away bugs seems to be a bit much, as bugs are a reality of camping! The plot itself, however, was intriguing and pulled me into the book as one I wanted to read, but could have been developed into so much more.
