Adventure

Dragon Captives (The Unwanteds Quests)
Ten years after Alex and Aaron Stowe brought peace to Quill and Artimé, their younger twin sisters journey beyond the islands in this first novel of a new sequel series to The Unwanteds, which Kirkus Reviews called “The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter.”Identical twins Fifer and Thisbe Stowe have amazing yet uncontrollable magical abilities. They’re naturally more gifted than even their brother, Alex, the head mage of Artimé, could hope to be. But when they accidentally use their magic in the jungle of Artimé to strike down a beloved creature, Alex is furious, and threatens to lock them away until they can learn to control their power. The threat is soon forgotten, though, when Hux, the ice blue dragon, comes to Artimé bearing the horrible news that his siblings have been enslaved by the notoriously evil Revinir, ruler of the dragon land. Seeking a chance to right their wrong and escape their brother’s wrath, Thisbe, Fifer, and their friend Seth sneak away to rescue the dragons from grave peril. Will their untrained abilities be enough to save the dragons—and themselves—when they come face-to-face with the Revinir?

The Lazy Dog and the Quick Fox
Children will delight in this action maze adventure based on the English pangram, "The quick sly fox jumps over the lazy brown dog." This pangram is used as a basis for extrapolating the story plots in this book. Children can make choices on how they want the story to unfold. Emotional intelligence points are awarded based on their choices. Parents will appreciate the emotional intelligence score scale focusing on friendship at the end of the book. One good example of an action maze adventure was showcased in the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks as the leading star. There was a scene in a boardroom at MacMillan Toy Company where the adult Josh and Susan presented a proposal for a computerized version of an action maze adventure, a story format that has existed in paperback form in real life for ages prior to this movie's debut. It is ironic that the author has done the opposite, first by composing an action maze adventure in an online blog, and then converting it into a book.

Time Traveling With a Hamster
Ross Welford
Back to the Future meets The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in this original, poignant, race-against-time story about a boy who travels back to 1984 to save his father’s life. My dad died twice. Once when he was thirty-nine and again four years later, when he was twelve. On his twelfth birthday, Al Chaudhury receives a letter from his dead father. It directs him to the bunker of their old house, where Al finds a time machine (an ancient computer and a tin bucket). The letter also outlines a mission: travel back to 1984 and prevent the go-kart accident that will eventually take his father’s life. But as Al soon discovers, whizzing back thirty years requires not only imagination and courage, but also lying to your mom, stealing a moped, and setting your school on fire—oh, and keeping your pet hamster safe. With a literary edge and tons of commerical appeal, this incredible debut has it all: heart, humor, vividly imagined characters, and a pitch-perfect voice.
