LitPick Review
Spellbound By The Captain’s Curse written by Frances Mary Dunham is a spicy romantasy about Abigail Derby, a fearless shipping heiress determined to protect her family's empire and shipments until Captain Wesley Northrup, known as "North Sea Devil" and also Abigail's sworn enemy, steals an important shipment from her. To protect their ships and secrets, the two are forced into an unwilling marriage filled with hatred, secrets, and a powerful curse. But, soon sparks of banter and tension grow between them. As dark magic and supernatural threats arise, Abigail and Wesley must work together to break the curse. Their journey is filled with angst, sea adventures, and the struggle between trust and betrayal.
Opinion:
I really enjoyed how the author mixed romance, fantasy, and suspense in this story. The angst and witty banters between Abigail and Wesley made the enemies-to-lovers theme more exciting. The curse and dark magic gave the story a unique twist. The atmosphere such as stormy seas, curses, and dangerous rituals were vividly written.
What I didn’t like about the book was that sometimes the scenes blended from one setting to another which left me a little confused. Some lines also felt repetitive, which made certain chapters feel a bit dragging. Overall, it was an engaging read because the characters and the adventurous plot kept me engaged till the end.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy dark fantasy romance, enemies-to-lovers stories, and adventure mixed with supernatural elements.
