LitPick Review
Evie Everyday is a witch, and all she wants is to be normal. On her first day at school she meets a girl named Izzy. Izzy is really nice and different from all the rest. Izzy studies witches and harpies (which are enemies), so Izzy knows right away that Evie is a witch. Evie also meets the principal, who wants to “help” her fit in. She gives her a black dress and tells her to stay away from Izzy. Evie stops hanging out with Izzy and slowly becomes popular.
Evie suspects something is up with the principal and the other students. Izzy eventually starts ignoring Evie and stopped coming to school. One day at school the secret gets out that Evie is a witch, and everything changes. Evie - with the help of her cat - start figuring what's going on at school, and she even turns back to Izzy for help. Does their plan work? Does Evie get her wish of being normal? Read the book to find out.
Opinion:
Secret Magic is a good book. In Secret Magic, there's friendships, arguments, and magic. I loved the positive ending of the book. I also loved how real it was -- because every kid wants to fit in, and some struggle just like Evie did. It starts out slow moving, but then there was a lot of action. I would recommend this to 9-11-year-olds who like books about friendship with a magical twist.
