Restart: Dawn of Shadows Book 2 is an adventure book by Drew Samuelsen about a group of teenagers who are on a quest to save America. Ulysses and his friends, Xavier and Max, are prepared for their next mission which is to return to Earth, New York precisely, to stop Queen Eve who is about to take control of the country. They had found out that her plans were evil and would put everyone in jeopardy if she actually took control. So, while they plan their next move in space, they also prepare to return to Earth with Max's father, Arden, and destroy whatever Queen Eve has planned before things worsen.
Opinion:
Restart: Dawn of Shadows Book 2 was very captivating from the young industrious characters to the well-constructed plot, and every page was filled with action and page-turning cliffhangers.
Starting with their adventures in space, I was curious as to what the teenagers were doing there, but as I read on, I realized that these young geniuses were looking for ways to protect their country from Queen Eve's evil plans. I actually love how they made use of upgraded technologies and AI like the SAM machine, which was used both for security and for fighting against dangerous aliens. It made the book more enthralling as I was drawn to the unique scientific machinery. Apart from that, I love how the characters had one mission in mind: to protect the people in the country. They were focused on helping humanity and even if they (Ulysses and Xavier) were sometimes scared, like when they were attacked by the aliens, I couldn't blame them because after all, they are young teenagers.
My biggest appreciation goes out to Arden, Max's father, who I think deserves a special recognition for having to coordinate the youngsters and making sure they were safe at all times. It is quite saddening, though, to read that the wicked mastermind behind the country's suffering was no other person than Queen Eve, his wife and Max's mother. But despite that, he was concerned and focused about the future of the country and that was the reason behind their mission.
Ulysses, the main character, was a friendly and jovial boy. I say jovial because he was quite funny, as evidenced by one of his jokes on page 75. Here, he stated that he wished SAM, the security and maintenance AI machine, had an OFF switch so that he could slap him on the shoulder and turn it off. That place really had me chuckling.
Even though I haven't read Book 1 (which I intend to do later), I was still able to grasp what the story was all about at the end. It was a fast-paced book and one that is full of adventures. I would like to recommend this story to young readers and fans of adventure books.
