“Poetry is a rhythmical piece of writing that leaves the reader feeling that life is a little richer than before, a little more full of wonder, beauty, or just plain delight,” said Aileen Lucia Fisher, a popular American author of over a hundred children's books. This quote has always been one of my favorites, as poems represent the rhythm of the human heart in the form of words. It very much relates to this book, 'Read Until You Bleed' by Daniel Garcia Ordaz. The author penned these funny poems during his recovery from a personal family tragedy, proving what he quoted in the preface of the book, “Laughter has been the greatest medicine to mankind in times of pain and sorrow.” The book has over 20 poems in English and some in Spanish.

Opinion:

The author keeps up with the rhyme scheme and other sorts of poetic techniques including imagery, alliteration, similes, etc., and tries to wrap the readers around the book. He uses different themes for poems such as nature, animals, life, names, reading, and so on. The introductory section for each poem, “Things to Consider About the Next Poem,” gives a personal touch to explain what to expect in that particular poem. The section poses a few interesting questions and ideas to the readers, and in some, there are even activities for the readers to try out. He was inspired by legends like Charles Dickens, Dr. Seuss, Rudolph Kipling, etc., who made his childhood memorable with their writings. My favorite poem in the book is Pet Names. It has some funny names for pet animals, not just a dog or cat, but also a hippo and alligator, and strangely, a dinosaur. These names are made of rhyming and sometimes silly words, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
