When Madison was a baby she was cute and small. As she grew, her mother marveled at all of Maddy’s growing stages, including when she got her first tooth to when her adult teeth grew in. Because of her mother’s loving care, Maddy grew into the smart, self-sufficient woman that she is today. As Mama has grown old, now it’s Maddy’s turn to take care of her mother as lovingly as her mother has done for Maddy throughout her growing years.

Opinion:

This was such a remarkable storytelling of the closeness of a mother and her daughter, Maddy, as she was growing up. It speaks of Maddy being so small, to the different stages of growth that included when she got her first tooth to when she got her adult teeth fully in. It also speaks about the closeness this mother and daughter have shared throughout the years. This story was very endearing because throughout the pages, you see Maddy growing up, even to the point of graduating high school, entering college, graduating college, and starting a career. Through all those years, their love and bond only grew stronger.  Now that her mother was a senior needing assistance herself, Maddy took on the responsibility of taking care of her mother as she had done for Maddy throughout her life. What made this even more special was that this story was dedicated to the real Madison Cahill that the character Maddy was based on.

Another thing I would like to bring to the reader’s attention is that this entire children’s story was written in a rhyming cadence. Ms. Smith was very creative not only for the storyline, but also in writing the entire thing in rhyme. Probably not having been the easiest of feats, she did phenomenally well in choosing just the right words to perfectly tell her readers a wonderful story that would entertain them.

The illustrations provided by Anastasia Dragunova were found on every page of this delightful story.  The majority of them were full-length illustrations that the readers could easily stop and admire, just as much as the written words. The illustrations perfectly complemented the chosen words Ms. Smith provided.

Latia Smith RDH has provided her readers with yet another wonderful dental hygiene book that readers of all ages can enjoy. She developed her passion for writing children’s books with the dental theme so she could educate her readers while helping to build confidence in children while they receive dental treatments.

Overall, Madison’s First Tooth: A Mother’s Nurturing Touch is a story that will delight readers of all ages. The storyline is entertaining, the mother and daughter relationship is endearing to read about, and the fun illustrations create the complete package that will have readers reading this story over and over again. It comes highly recommended!
